Research Paper + Possible Thesis Statements

My research paper topic deals with how the media portrays body image.

Here are my possible thesis statements:

1. The media's portrayal of the perfect body negatively impacts society physically, mentally, and socially.

2. The emphasis on body image within American media effects women more so than men due to women's natural self-concious behavior and American culture's stress on the physical beauty of women.

I think they are both pretty good thesis but you could definitlly write a nice paper on number one and then maybe say that the media has such a negative impact on women because of your reasons in thesis two.

Both are good thesis statements. I think you would be able to make a good arguement for either of them. Personally I like the first one better because it is very clear, and it would probably be easier to find evidence to support your case.

I like where you are going with your second thesis but I don't thinks it is clear enough. The wording is a little choppy, making it almost so that you have to read the sentence twice to understand it. I think it might be better to go with your first thesis and use the points of your second thesis to explain it.

First one is definitely better. I highly doubt you could find enough information for 10-12 pages on the second one. As the others have said, the second thesis would probably be better used as a couple arguments for the first thesis.

Because thesis two is so specific, you probably won't find as much evidence concerning that as you would for thesis one, although any results you find on thesis two certainly could be used to support your first argument. I wouldn't suggest restricting your first thesis to those three main parts, just because that looks like the makings of a five paragraph essay which would be way too short in this case.
